Hardeeville's December Happens at 205 Main Street

Most of Hardeeville's December events happen at a single address. On the City's December 2026 calendar, the tree lighting, Merry on Main and the Wreaths Across America ceremony are all at 205 Main Street, City Hall. Merry on Main sets up on the lot behind the building. The Christmas Parade comes through downtown just before Merry on Main opens, so the afternoon ends at City Hall.

The rest of the season's work runs out of the Hardeeville Recreation Center, 285 John Smith Road. The Santa's Toy Box sorting and gift-wrapping happen there, and that's also the address on the parade's application page. Learn those two addresses and you can follow the whole month.

December 1 Opens the Season on Main

The season starts on a Tuesday evening. The City's tree lighting listing runs from 6 to 7 p.m. at 205 Main Street and promises hot cocoa, cookies, Christmas music and a Christmas story time. The night ends with the tree lighting and a visit from Santa.

It only lasts an hour, and it's on a school night, so families can come straight from dinner and be home by bedtime. Merry on Main returns to the same address 11 days later.

The Parade Is Open to Any Group That Applies

The City's Parks, Recreation & Tourism department hosts the Christmas Parade. The parade's event page invites organizations to join the Saturday, Dec. 12 procession through downtown Hardeeville, which starts at 3 p.m.

Watching the parade costs nothing, and so does marching in it. The Parade Participant Application is free, and it closes Friday, Dec. 4 at 11:59 p.m. EST. That gives a church group, youth team, civic club, neighborhood association or local business a few weeks to decide, apply and decorate something.

The application lists the route as downtown, and approved participants receive an official lineup map. If you're watching from the curb, plan to be downtown before 3 p.m. Parking near Main Street will fill up, since Merry on Main opens right after the parade.

The Afternoon Moves From the Street to the Lot

Those two events are designed as a pair. The City's Merry on Main listing says it "follows the Hardeeville Christmas Parade and takes place behind City Hall," and it runs from 4 to 7 p.m.

The listing mentions:

  • Photos with Santa
  • Local vendors
  • Bounce houses
  • A petting zoo
  • Other holiday activities

So on Dec. 12, you can watch the parade and then walk to the lot behind City Hall. One parking spot covers the whole afternoon. Stop by the vendor tables to see which local businesses are there. The 7 p.m. finish leaves time for an early dinner in town afterward.

Santa's Toy Box Goes to the Neighborhoods

Santa's Toy Box starts away from downtown, in Hardeeville's neighborhoods. The City's December calendar calls the Hardeeville Santa Toy Box Drive "an annual community initiative that collects toys and gifts for children in need during the holiday season." On Monday, Dec. 7, City staff pick up donated toys from local neighborhoods, and volunteers sort the donations at the Recreation Center before they're distributed.

City staff handle the pick-up runs, and the Recreation Center on John Smith Road is where the toys get sorted.

The next day the Recreation Center hosts Santa's Gift Wrap Party, described as "a volunteer-driven holiday event where donated toys and gifts are wrapped for children in the Hardeeville community."

Last year's drive gives a sense of what donors were asked for. In November 2025, the City's Santa's Toy Box notice asked for new, unwrapped toys for children ages 4 to 12. Drop-off ran from Nov. 3 through Dec. 5 at the Recreation Center, and questions went to [email protected]. Those were the 2025 details. Before you shop this year, ask the City about the 2026 drop-off window and volunteer sign-up through its Santa's Toy Box Drive page.

On Dec. 7, pick-up crews work across town and the donations get sorted. On Dec. 8, the Recreation Center becomes a wrapping room. Four days later, the parade and Merry on Main bring everyone downtown. If you volunteer at the Recreation Center and then go to the Dec. 12 events, you'll have seen both halves of how the City runs the season.

December 19 Brings the Season Back to City Hall

The Wreaths Across America ceremony is more solemn than the rest of the month. The City's listing schedules it in front of City Hall at 205 Main Street from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19. Wreaths are then laid at the graves of fallen service members.

The bounce houses and petting zoo were behind the building the Saturday before. Now the front of City Hall is the starting point for a memorial. The ceremony runs at midday, so families who came to the evening events can come back with older kids in daylight.

Planning Around the Two Addresses

If you're putting the City's December on your own calendar, these dates come with something to do:

  1. By Friday, Dec. 4. Groups that want to march submit the free parade application before 11:59 p.m. EST.
  2. Before Monday, Dec. 7. Get your donated toys into the Santa's Toy Box drive. Check with the City for this year's drop-off details.
  3. Tuesday, Dec. 8. Volunteers can wrap gifts at the Recreation Center, 285 John Smith Road.
  4. Saturday, Dec. 12. Be downtown by 3 p.m. for the parade, then go to the lot behind City Hall for Merry on Main until 7 p.m.
  5. Saturday, Dec. 19. Come back to City Hall at noon for Wreaths Across America.

For the Dec. 1 tree lighting, all you have to do is show up at 205 Main Street by 6 p.m.
